This program is dedicated to international conservation efforts and\nenvironmental education in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central and South\nAmerica, and the Caribbean. Originated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Smithsonian_Migratory_Bird_Center\">Smithsonian\nMigratory Bird Center<\/a>, it is now coordinated by\nEnvironment for the Americas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.migratorybirdday.org\/\">International\nMigratory Bird Day<\/a>\n(IMBD) officially takes place on the second Saturday in May in the U.S. and\nCanada and on the second Saturday of October in Mexico, Central and South\nAmerica, and the Caribbean each year. Recognizing that this date does not work\nwell for all places or for the migratory birds themselves- sites host these\nprograms at their convenience throughout the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This program engages the general public to care about\nmaintaining healthy bird populations and protecting breeding, non-breeding, and\nstop over habitats used by migratory birds. International Migratory Bird Day\nprograms often are <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Science_education\">informal science\neducation<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Informal_learning\">informal science\nlearning<\/a> activities such as bird walks, art\ncompetitions, nature based festivals, and presentations.
